Melissa Crook, RYT 200, Yoga Teacher

mcstudio b 9 2017

Melissa Crook is a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher thru Yoga Alliance. She was born in Columbia, SC and returned to call it home again in 2006 after working in Boston, Atlanta and the UK. Melissa returned to Yoga in 2012 for what she thought was to ease the pain of an achy hip. What she found was so much more than just movement and breath. As they say, the lesson repeats, until it is learned. Melissa felt at home on the mat and to deepen her practice in 2014, spent 21 days of vacation away from her corporate Strategic Planning job to immerse and complete her 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training in Asheville, NC. She continues her studies and has completed 70% of the hours required for her 300 hr Advanced Yoga Teacher Training certification in Asheville.

After suddenly becoming a caretaker for a parent in 2012 and the many long hours of sitting in hospital and rehab, Melissa observed there seemed to be something missing in the medical world and the care of the whole person. The soul needs nourishment to allow us to be present and thrive. She believes Yoga does just that. As her teacher told her ‘Yoga is not a work out – it is a work in”. Melissa’s class blends a mixture of her formal training in Qi Gong and MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) with yoga alignment and movement and mindful breath practice. Her specialized training in Senior Yoga and Yoga for Trauma lead her to focus in sharing yoga with Seniors and Caregivers who may be unable to travel to a traditional yoga studio setting. She teaches a mix of Private and Public classes in the Columbia and Lexington, SC area.
